
The Cyprus Chess Federation (CCF) is pleased to announce the Cyprus Open Chess Championship 2025, an open event for all players, both Cypriot and foreigners..
Event Details:
- Dates: January 31st – February 23rd, 2025
- Venue: Journalist’s’ House, Nicosia
- Format: 9-round Swiss System
- Time Control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

Participation Requirements:
- Players must possess a KYSO Athlete Card (KYSO ID) for 2025 to participate.
- For players who already have a FIDE ID, the cost of the KYSO ID is €10. To apply for the KYSO ID, visit https://cypruschessfederation.org/kyso-id-activation/.
- For players without a FIDE ID, the cost is €20. This includes both the KYSO ID and the issuance of a FIDE ID. Players without a FIDE ID must register for one through https://cypruschessfederation.org/player-registration/.
- After obtaining the KYSO ID, players must complete their tournament registration through the link: https://cypruschessfederation.org/product/cyprus-open-chess-championship-2025/.
Bye Requests:
- From rounds 1 to 7, players may request two half-point byes if they are unable to attend due to other commitments or unforeseen circumstances. Bye requests are allowed only twice during the tournament.
- Bye requests can be made in one of the following ways:
- On the registration form at the time of entry.
- By completing and submitting the written “Bye Request Form” to the arbiter at the event.
Awards & Titles:
- Prizes will be awarded to the first three winners (open category and women’s category).
- Diplomas and medals will be awarded to all participants.
- The first six (6) male chess players in the final ranking with a KYSO ID category A and the first one under 20 years old, will have the right to participate in the 2025 Cyprus Closed Championship.
- The first six (6) female chess players in the final ranking with KYSO ID category A and the first one under 20 years old, will have the right to participate in the 2025 Cyprus Women’s Closed Championship.
- The first chess player in the final ranking with KYSO ID category A will be granted with the amount of €1000 for participation in an international tournament abroad.
- The best three (3) U-20 chess players will receive a scholarship to Uclan University as follows: 1st 50%, 2nd 40% and 3rd 30%.
- Prizes will be awarded to the first three (3) winners (A category) and the first three (3) female winners (A category) as well as in the under-20, over-50 and over-65 categories.
- A cash prize of €200 will be awarded to the first winner of each category (provided that each category has at least 5 athletes) and those who qualify for the Cyprus Closed Championships will be awarded their entry fee. 2 cash prizes cannot be awarded to the same person.
Entry Fee:
€30 for adult players and €20 for Under-18 players (payable online).
Anti-Cheating Measures:
